Zanzibar teems with idyllic, palm-lined beaches and a diverse array of marine species. Many people come to relax, mainly after an adventure-filled safari in the Mainland. On top of powdered sandy beaches and beautiful azure waters, Zanzibar is home to some of the most iconic festivals. The Sauti za Busara Festival is no exception. If you love vibes and great festivals, then don’t plan to miss the Sauti za Busara Festival. Read details below about this fascinating event.

Sauti za Busara is a music festival featuring some of the best melodies in Africa. The stage is rocking, fans screaming… The echoes of local music dominate the streets of Stone Town. All these are happening in February when most travelers are at home. But you may be surprised to find many international visitors and locals alike singing together. That is the Sauti za Busara, or in simple English, the sounds of wisdom.

For more than 20 years, this festival has featured loads of African genres and is globally recognized as a cultural exchange event worth seeing. (UNESCO recognizes it.) People join this festival to enjoy, connect, and make a change in society. And the changes involve strengthening social cohesion.

History of the Sauti za Busara.

If we trace back to the roots, Busara Promotions was registered in 2003 to operate in Zanzibar. This non-profit NGO aims to promote professional employment in the African music industry. It does this by providing a platform—the Sauti za Busara Festival—where artists showcase their talents to customers and sponsors. The first music festival premiered in 2004, and for a consistent duration of 20 years, Sauti za Busara has been an event worth attending.

The festival takes place over three days. You will attend more than live performances held in Stone Town and Fumba Town. Meet new friends and partners, dance, and sing as Africa’s best artists perform. Music featured ranges from local music like taarab and singeli to Afrobeat hits. With the event happening in Stone Town, you have a lot to do. The Old Fort, which will, of course, be a venue for most live music performances, is a wonder in itself.

How to book your ticket

Don’t miss the ‘early bird’ tickets. We are here to help. But we understand what some people may be thinking: maybe the Sauti za Busara Festival isn’t enough to make you book a trip. Our tip is to book a safari in the Mainland destination, like Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Crater, and then conclude the tour with a 3 days Zanzibar island trip. Alternatively, you may consider booking a Zanzibar holiday, ensuring it coincides with the festival dates.

Worried about the weather? Zanzibar and the Mainland experience a short dry season from January through mid-March. Occasional showers do happen on some days, but they are short and usually fall during the night. Wildlife viewing is possible. And in the Serengeti, the calving season is its pinnacle, with the birthing of about 8,000 calves per day.

Allow us to handle everything for you. We offer affordable Tanzania safari packages specially for the Sauti za Busara. We customize them the way you want. Whether you want to combine it with the calving season safari in the Serengeti or a beach holiday in Zanzibar, your trip will be unforgettable.
