TIPPU TIP’S HOUSE

This is the house of the man named Tippu Tip. His real names were Hamad bin Muhammad bin Juma bin Rajab el Murjebi. He was an Arab slave trader and ivory trader operating over 150 years ago in Zanzibar. He was one of the biggest ivory and slave traders in the world who made himself very wealthy in the internal slave trade and ivory trading business.

Tippu Tip’s House

This man was a terrorist, he trafficked tens of thousands of human beings in his building every year. He specialized in traveling to the interior of Africa buying and capturing slaves. He used many slaves that he captured to carry ivory to the cost after which he would sell some of the slaves. He trafficked ivory that is no longer seen today, the ivory takes four people to carry. The fact that he walked around with guns made him all the more believable. He was nicknamed “Tippu Tip” after the “tip tip” sound that his gun gave off during his expeditions into the interior. He died of malaria disease in 1905. The home place where this man bought ivory out of Africa is now an amazing tourist attraction in Zanzibar. MTONI PALACE

This building is one of the oldest buildings ever used as the royal palace that once ruled Zanzibar. The building was built by an Arab businessman from Oman named Saleh bin Haramil al-abry in 1804. The mansion is located in the Mtoni area 8 Kilometers from Unguja Town. The area has been named Mtoni due to the discovery of a river that supplies water beyond the city of Unguja and flows into the Indian Ocean through the edge of this palace. The origin of this building was the residence of this businessman from Oman, he also used this building as a warehouse to store various products of his business.

MKUNAZINI CHURCH

This was the first church to be built in east Africa. It is also the oldest church in Zanzibar. The church has companioned with the Arabs mosques.  Inside this church, there are various historical attractions including slaves’ chambers, benches, monuments, Arabs pictures, colonial pictures, and slave pictures. The church belongs to the Anglican Church of Zanzibar and still worships there every Sunday. It is very interesting to visit the Cathedral and learn the history of colonialism in Zanzibar. The church is quite architecturally interesting and rather beautiful. You can see this cathedral with one museum ticket for the price of $ 5, it is a small tour but it can be interesting especially because you can see the jails and in the cathedral, you can see something regarding the slave trade.
