Favourite East African Beach Lodges : Many of our amazing clients enjoy capping off their luxury safari with a fantastic luxury beach vacation. In East Africa, this is made simple because any of our luxury safari camps and lodges can take you to either Zanzibar or the Kenya Coast. We include a handful of our favorites below. The high degree of individual and indulgent care that our customers get while on safari at any of our great properties is something we tend to favor in smaller boutique lodges. The following are some of our favorites among the luxurious beach lodges in East Africa.
WATER LOVERS
Water Lovers is a resort with eight spacious cottages and a self-contained villa with a fully equipped kitchen, all of which have individual verandas with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. It is located on the spectacular white sands of Diani Beach on Kenya’s south coast. The restaurant Tides, which serves Mediterranean cuisine made with the freshest local ingredients and is situated around an infinity pool shaped like a turtle, is arguably the focal point of the Water Lovers Resort.
With only eight villas, Water Lovers is able to maintain a sense of seclusion, and the helpful staff at the front desk is available 24 hours a day to book any local activities, such as diving, kayaking, and snorkeling. The H2O Extreme Water Sport Centre, Diani’s top kite and windsurfing school, is a short distance from Water Lovers. This resort’s boutique vibe gives off an air of exclusivity while preserving the laid-back appeal of its surroundings.
MNEMBA ISLAND
Mnemba Island, a private, previously uninhabited island located 5 kilometers from Zanzibar’s east coast, has earned the rightful distinction of being one of the best and most upscale beach resorts in Africa. Ten Bandas make up the lodge, each of which is tastefully but subtly designed to ensure that nothing detracts from the beauty of the island setting and the secluded view of the sea. The magnificence of an elite resort combined with the ultimate in barefoot luxury is perfectly balanced on Mnemba Island. It is the stuff of tropical fantasies!

FUNDU LAGOON
On Pemba Island, a part of the Zanzibar archipelago, sits the picturesque Fundu Lagoon, winner of the Best Marine Safari Experience award. The resort’s isolation and one-way boat access allow visitors to completely unwind as a team of devoted staff members attend to their every need. Sand walkways take you to the 18 thatched tented rooms and suites at Fundu Lagoon, both of which feature a private plunge pool and an outdoor minibar. The resort has been designed tastefully and in line with its natural surroundings. The fully furnished, PADI 5-star-certified dive shop at this resort, which offers excursions to some of the best dive sites in the world along with a wide range of watersports, is what makes it unique,Favourite East African Beach Lodges
WHITE SAND VILLAS
White Sand succeeds on every level of one architect’s ambition for a luxurious, sustainable, and low-impact resort. The resort has its own water source and is powered by both solar and wind energy, minimizing its impact on the environment. Each of the 11 villas is well furnished, has a private pool, and most are located right on the sand. Five of these villas have one bedroom; five have two bedrooms; and one is an opulent five-bedroom mansion with a private white sand beach and less than ten acres of tropical vegetation.
If you choose to venture away from the beach, the resort offers an impressive selection of amenities, such as a tropical spa with a waterfall backdrop, a fine dining restaurant, and it’s very own highly regarded water sports facility. CNN.com named White Sands Villas as one of the best new hotels in the world.
THE FUNZI KEYS
The resort is tucked away on an undeveloped island but is only 15 minutes by plane from Mombasa, according to a recent visitor who called it “total paradise, the closest you will ever come to being Robinson Crusoe.” The resort is surrounded by water, which adds to the feeling of total peaceful seclusion and makes it feel like your private hideaway. A handful of the beachfront villas can accommodate families, and all have a Jacuzzi with breathtaking sea views.
The lodging is made up of nine beachfront cottages and eight Seaview cottages, each of which is independently decorated and equipped with local artifacts and textiles. Due to the resort’s west-facing location, each cottage has a private sitting area where visitors may relax with a drink in hand and take in the glorious African sunset. Conde Naste Traveler named The Funzi Keys as one of the top 6 private island resorts in the world.
